However, the 26-14 win against the Giants showcased significant improvements on both sides of the ball.

One of the standout moments was Rattler’s 87-yard touchdown pass to Rashid Shaheed, which electrified the crowd. Additionally, the defense contributed significantly by forcing five turnovers, including an 86-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Jordan Howden. Moore emphasized the mix of experienced players and younger talent on the roster. He described the team as a “cool blend” of veterans who know how to win and younger guys who are still learning the ropes. This balance has been key in building a resilient team that can adapt and grow together.

Among the young players making waves is rookie Jonas Sanker, who made his first interception in Week 4 and later recovered a fumble forced by veteran linebacker Demario Davis. His contributions have bolstered the confidence of the defense. “Forcing five turnovers — that’s hard to do no matter how they come,” Sanker said. “It builds a lot of confidence in the guys on that defense.”

Veterans like Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau also played vital roles in the game. Both returned from major knee injuries and made their 2025 debuts against the Giants. Hill’s performance included converting a third-down run and completing a 19-yard pass, showcasing his readiness to contribute. Moore praised their efforts, stating he plans to gradually increase their playing time as they continue to recover.

While the Saints have shown promise, there are areas that need attention. Special teams have struggled, with five missed field goals and poor coverage on kickoff returns. The team ranks last in the league for covering opponents' kickoff returns and is tied for 29th in yards allowed per punt return. Moore acknowledged these challenges, saying, “Not quite good enough. We have a bunch of guys who have had a lot of success in this league. When you go through bumps, you bring it a little closer, bring it a little bit tighter, and find the solutions together.”

Rising Stars

Despite the challenges, several players have emerged as key contributors. Second-year cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry made a significant impact, recording the first two interceptions of his career in the fourth quarter. His performance, along with four tackles and three passes defensed, earned praise from Moore. “We think the world of him,” Moore said. “He made a bunch of plays throughout the entire game.”

Taliese Fuaga and Kelvin Banks Jr., both first-round draft picks, also impressed. Their strong performances helped the Saints avoid being sacked during the game. Moore called their play “arguably as good as they’ve played this year.”

Challenges Ahead

However, not all aspects of the team are shining. Blake Grupe, the kicker, missed a field goal for the fifth time this season. While some of these misses came from beyond 50 yards, Moore remains confident in Grupe’s abilities. “Blake's a really good kicker. People go through challenging circumstances in this league and so the job is to find a solution,” he said.

Injuries have also affected the team. Safety Justin Reid is currently in the concussion protocol after leaving the game early. Chase Young has yet to play this season due to a calf strain, but Moore remains optimistic about his return. Guard Cesar Ruiz is also week-to-week following an ankle injury.

The Saints will face the surging New England Patriots in their next game. The Patriots have won three of their last four games, including a victory at previously unbeaten Buffalo. This matchup presents an opportunity for the Saints to build on their recent success and continue their upward trajectory.
