Style of Play

The main issue is the team's style of play. Right now, Liverpool are too easy to play against. In every game this season where they've struggled, the common thread has been pressure from the opposition. Teams like Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Galatasaray have all managed to push them back and create chances.

This kind of pressure is becoming more common as other teams learn how to exploit Liverpool's weaknesses. While teams like Burnley, Wolves, and West Ham might not push them too far into their own half, more disciplined teams will. With the players available, Liverpool needs to perform better throughout the entire game.

Although opposition teams will have spells of pressure, Liverpool must improve their defensive organization. This is a critical area that needs immediate attention.

In the Champions League match against Galatasaray, Liverpool were down 1-0 and struggling. I can't remember a single ball being played into the middle of the park in the last 20 minutes. The team has technically skilled players who could have bridged the gap between defense and attack, but they weren't used effectively.

The last 20 minutes were predictable, sloppy, and focused on long balls. This makes Liverpool an easy target for opponents because they aren't utilizing their strengths. If you give the Galatasaray defense a choice between tracking runners or chasing short passes versus heading long balls clear, which do you think they’ll choose?

Wirtz is close to controlling an entire game, but he has a tendency to make costly mistakes. For every two or three good actions, he counters with two or three bad ones. His performance has been inconsistent, making it difficult to rely on him in crucial moments.

One of the biggest surprises came when Slot brought on Macca after Ekitike got injured. This move pushed Wirtz to the left, where he has shown he doesn’t belong. If Rio Ngumoha had come on instead, it might have given the opposition something different to deal with. While I’m not a big fan of Joe Gomez, he’s currently a better option than Konate. I'm giving Konate a hard time, but that doesn’t excuse the rest of the defense. The team keeps giving away chances and boosting the confidence of opponents.

Slot hasn’t yet found his best team. This is understandable, as five of the starting 11 only met for the first time two months ago. While the fans are patient, they need to see something different against Chelsea. Otherwise, the same issues will be discussed next weekend.
